Typography
Letter-forms are created and designed. They
are an art form, before metal hand set types were used. As in photography, typography
also is about compositions. In Photoshop we have ‘fonts’ the proper term is
called ‘type face’.
There are families of type sets and they are categorized. We associate certain typeface with different subjects. For example
the ‘Roman Times” is seen in education, formal companies such as lawyers and
accountant will use it. It is seen as a professional typeface.
Whereas some such as ‘Santa fe let’ script is
seen on hairdressers boards. And because of he curls in the typeface it is seen
as a business that deals hands on with you.
Selecting the correct typeface should
represent us as photographers within our work.
HENRY
BECK
Harry Beck designed the London
Underground map of 1933. Beck's design simplified information to show the
next Underground stop clearly, rather than showing the geographical position of
the Underground lines. The design was based on electrical wiring diagrams.
Similar designs are now used for transport maps around the world.

Modern typographers, like David Carson have incorporated
past and new type sets in their work to make then individual. In a time where
we are bombarded by images, typographers also have to stand out. Photographer and typographer work more so together
in editorials magazine, and example is below of Carson’s work. It is simple,
black and white image with a clean lined type set.
